Just yesterday I planned to stay angry and sad, over losin' the world I thought I had. Hittin' bottom in an outhouse, who's to say, who knows, how I'm able to climb out now, smellin' like a rose? But I'll bet it's this dog that's doin' me good an' I credit these friends of mine, an' findin' this apartment in the neighborhood of the diner called the Knotty Pine. I'll rent four square feet of Formica, for the price of a Coke and fries. And the world begins to look brighter through caffeine-reopened eyes. An' now: everything's different but ev'ry bit as good, an' everybody's friendly in this funky neighborhood, an' every little thing is fine at the Knotty Pine. I'd never have imagined things could turn so fast or that the world of hurtin' wouldn't last. An' so I'm still a little shocked to see my reflection past the griddle smilin' back at me. But I plan to get used to things goin' good and accustomed to comin' through fine, and addicted to truckin' through the neighborhood to the diner called the Knotty Pine to rent four square feet of Formica for the price of a cup of joe. Then the future's bound to seem brighter once that brew begins to flow. I find: all the world's different, but it's all OK, there's a lot of old world I hadn't needed anyway, and every little thing is fine at the Knotty Pine. So if you're overdue for feelin' good, I'm hopin' that you'll feel inclined to join me when you're ever in the neighborhood of the diner called the Knotty Pine. We'll rent eight square feet of Formica with grilled cheeses and Mountain Dews. Soon our future's sure to seem brighter as the buzz drives out the blues. You'll find everything's different but every bit as sweet, an' the only side is sunny on this funny little street, and every little thing is fine, at the Knotty Pine.
